WB60+ SEASON FINALE

On Saturday, May 9, participants, families, friends and supporters came together at P. Nikolaidis Basketball Court in Keratsini to celebrate the completion of the first Walking Basketball 60+ pilot season.

After seven months of weekly training sessions, older adults from the Municipal Senior Centres (KAPI) of Keratsini and Drapetsona took to the court one more time, marking the end of a journey that brought together physical activity, social participation and community building through sport.

A highlight of the day was a series of friendly Walking Basketball games between the Walking Basketball 60+ team and the Olympiacos Veterans Basketball Club. More than a few basketball matches, the event was a celebration of commitment, teamwork and the community that had been built throughout the season.

The event was attended by the Mayor Mr Christos Vrettakos, representatives of the Municipality of Keratsini-Drapetsona, members of the local basketball community and supporters of the programme. The celebration was honoured by the presence of Greek basketball legends Panagiotis Fasoulas, honorary guest of the event, and Argiris Kampouris, President of the Olympiacos Veterans Basketball Club, who joined participants in celebrating the completion of the first Walking Basketball 60+ pilot season.

The event offered a fitting conclusion to a season that demonstrated how sport can create meaningful opportunities for active ageing, social connection and lifelong participation in community life.

"Walking Basketball 60+ is designed and implemented by COMM’ON non profit, with the support of the Hellenic Basketball Coaches Association (SEPK) and the Municipality of Keratsini–Drapetsona.

The first pilot cycle is taking place in Keratsini, running from October 2025 to May 2026. All participants, women and men aged 60 to 85, are members of the 9 municipal senior centres, The project is supported by the TIMA Charitable Foundation as part of the Points of Support programme, co-funded by 10 philanthropic organisations.
