the municipal Digital Historical Archive of Keratsini-Drapetsona
As part of its ongoing collaboration with the Municipality of Keratsini-Drapetsona through Fertile Ground, COMM’ON has worked jointly with the Municipality to develop the Digital Historical Archive of the Keratsini-Drapetsona Municipality, a growing digital database dedicated to documenting the area's social, cultural and industrial history.
How can the history of a city be preserved, documented and made accessible to future generations?
The Archive brings together historical evidence, photographs, archival material and oral testimonies creating a resource through which the history of the area can be researched, explored and shared. It is not a closed or completed collection, but an evolving database that will continue to expand as new material is documented and added.
The Archive also supports the development of the digital platform Digital Routes of History and Culture in Drapetsona and Keratsini [ www.dimotikesdiadromes.gr ]. The platform presents a selection of the historical material through locations, stories and thematic routes/tours, while the wider Archive preserves a broader body of documentation.
Access to the Municipal Digital Historical Archive is available to researchers, university students and school students through the Municipal Libraries of Keratsini-Drapetsona, supporting local history research, learning and engagement with cultural heritage.
The community is part of the archive-building process.
Through an open call, residents are invited to contribute photographs, personal and family mementos and historical documents, as well as to participate in oral history interviews. These contributions help connect individual experiences with the shared history of the city.
The Archive will continue to grow alongside the digital routes, with further content on Drapetsona and the planned launch of the Keratsini tour in 2027.
The project is implemented by the Municipality of Keratsini-Drapetsona in collaboration with KDVM II Keratsini-Drapetsona and COMM’ON, under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Part of the project is funded by the Ministry of Culture.
