We are delighted to share that four documentation files developed in collaboration with local communities across the Aegean have successfully advanced to the second phase of evaluation for inclusion in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece.

The submissions include three cultural heritage elements
the Kasian Feast in Kasos island,
Easter Customs of Halki island and
the Celebration of Panagia tou Charou in Lipsi island
as well as the documentation of Petra Tilos as a Good Safeguarding Practice for Intangible Cultural Heritage

Behind this milestone lies a long-term participatory process developed together with local communities, municipalities, cultural associations and knowledge bearers in Kasos, Halki, Lipsi and Tilos.
Through collective research, oral history documentation, community meetings and collaborative writing, residents worked together to document and reflect on the cultural practices that continue to shape community life today.
For COMM'ON, these initiatives demonstrate the value of community-led approaches to heritage documentation and safeguarding.
The process of preparing a submission to the National Inventory is not only about recording traditions; it is also an opportunity for communities to discuss, reinterpret and strengthen the role of cultural heritage in contemporary life.
While the evaluation process continues, this important step encourages us to continue supporting local communities in documenting, safeguarding and promoting their living cultural heritage. We also await developments regarding the evaluation of the Easter Customs of Tilos, which were submitted in 2024.
The process of documenting and enriching the National Inventory is both demanding and time-consuming. Its significance lies precisely in the care, participation and collective effort required to ensure that cultural heritage is documented by and with the communities that keep it alive.
